U.S. History

We finished "Murder at the Fair" with adding to our notes as detailed for yesterday.  (This video is available on youtube.)  We then continued our individual, in-class work on an A/V Claim & Evidence over Crash Course #27.

World History

Due to the drill yesterday during my absence and possible confusion about the Research due date, today was given as one additional research day.  Research is now officially due in Google Classroom BEFORE the start of class tomorrow, Friday.  ; )

WEDNESDAY KCC

See U.S. post.

WEDNESDAY U.S. History

Due to my absence, we put things out of order a bit -- Crash Course assessment put on hold, and today students took EQ notes and added CQ questions while viewing the "Murder at the Fair" episode of 10 Days That Unexpectedly Changed America."

Socratic discussion today over Hilda's story -- I Came A Stranger.

U.S. History

We continued our work on Crash Course #27 as an in-class assessment score.

World History

We did a guessing/remembering game contest with the 8 world religion posters in the classroom (name the religion depicted) and with a short PSA about respecting other religions/religious freedom (name the different religions depicted).  We then began our end-of-unit research (part of today and all of tomorrow; so, 6+pages for 3.0....8+ pages w/ commentary for 4.0 -- see me for further details if needed).  First, reread the 2 pages of helpful info on the Research Cheats doc in Google Classroom, as a few minutes on this first will save loads of time during the work!  Then, begin looking up expert answers to your C.Q.s, following the Research Cheats instructions.  The work should be done in Google Classroom > Classwork at the very bottom assignment entitled "World Religions Research."

KCC

Students had time to collaborate on the emerging themes from Chapter 20.  Today is the last in-class reading day for Hilda's story, I Came A Stranger.  Tomorrow is our scored Socratic discussion.

U.S. History

2nd hour finished their work on Crash Course #25, and both hours we discussed the 5 thesis parts and edited our individual papers as needed.  Students were given time to collaborate on notes for their E.Q. pages from Hilda's story as well as CC#25.  We then began scored assessment work on Crash Course #27 -- to be continued in class tomorrow; this work must be done in class with Mrs. Cluver.

World History

We had time for casual discussion of the Fordson film and also reminders -- today in Advisory I'll replay the middle part of the video, and tomorrow will be the replay of the end portion (for students who missed either or both of those days last week).  I shared an editorial cartoon for a point of big-picture perspective...that we all view the world through our own culture as an historical studies reminder that there are many perspectives/lenses.  We did our primary source C&L for Islam, and then discussed/edited the answers.

World History

We finished our scored assessment work on the Fordson video.  Students who were absent Wednesday will need to come in during Advisory on Monday to view the portion they missed, and students who were absent Thursday will need to come in during Advisory on Tuesday.  Add some CQs to your page.  (We have just a few quick items to wrap up our Islam case study on Monday, and then it's time to wrap-up the whole History- World Religions unit with research, UCWP, and writing.)

Research has been returned -- see scores and/or feedback.  Note for moving forward -- it is critical that you follow the instructions to record specific Curiosity Questions throughout the unit of study, as too many students are falling into not having research ideas and, thus, Google basic topics and end up reporting to me information that was already covered in the assigned class materials for which points are not awarded.  Today is writing day 2 of 3.

U.S. History

We finished the Context & Lens assessment for Hilda's story -- if you were absent, see me to set up a time to complete this scored work.  A new note page -- to be used for her actual story excerpts -- was distributed, and to start, students recorded their observations, thoughts, and memories about a collection of display objects (bananas and a brown paper bag)...brainstorm whatever comes to mind, what you think of, your memories and opinions about these objects.  Then, if you are in 5th begin reading her story while taking many notes of facts as well as your thoughts and questions in preparation for a Socratic discussion that will be held Friday; tomorrow will be a second and final reading day to prepare.  2nd hour is a day behind due to the late start yesterday, and they will prep the story Thursday and Friday with Socratic on Tuesday.

U.S. History

Writing day #1 of 3.  Begin your work on the Civil War Writing doc set up as an assignment in Google Classroom, using well the several support docs in the "Writing" skill section of Google Classroom; let your old writing and feedback work for you, also!  When doing the first, long, difficult, and most important step -- deciding upon the themes/answers for your thesis, use both your EQ page (of course) and also the UCWP as a double-check for big topics.

World History

In 4th hour we did our Socratic follow-up in which I clarified particular content and distributed score sheets; also, the Bhagavad Gita Context & Lens was returned, charted, edited, and discussed.  In all classes we added to our Religion Basic Notes from my Judaism slideshow and information I provided in discussion not seen on the slides; so, if you were absent, copy the notes from a reliable classmate, and then view the slideshow for additional clarity and support.  Add notes to E.Q. #1 & #2 for Judaism.  Judaism-related artifacts are on display on the front shelf.  (We already read much about Judaism in our Ag and Urban units of study and have already read a primary source excerpt, Deuteronomy.)  Tomorrow -- on to case study #4 -- Christianity.
