We began our preparation for Socratic Discussion -- pick up (or see Google Classroom) for the three handouts -- "12 Years a Slave" note page, the Human Rights helper page, and "Simplified Timeline and Slavery and Racial Issues" handout.  Copy from a reliable classmate the context notes we took via SMART Board onto the back of the note page.  Then, take notes from the following scenes...(be prepared that this is an intense film and is not for younger viewers)...Scene 8 through to the point when the plantation mistress has spoken to the female slave in the cart; Scene 12 through to when the plantation mistress turns to walk away on the porch; Scene 27 through to the letter burning; and Scene 31 until she is tied to the post (we stopped before the actual whipping).  There is one more set of scenes that we will view tomorrow.

U.S. History

Finish the C&E on Loewen's Chapter 5 and also recording your thoughts and questions...in preparation for Socratic discussion.  The scored discussion is tomorrow -- over that chapter and also over "12 Years a Slave."  See the "Socratic Cheats" document in Google Classroom to help yourself prepare!  The scoring rubric is also in Ggl Clssrm is you want to do a review of it. ; )

World History

Finish the Layering-to-Later Reading Claim & Evidence -- if you were absent, see me to set up a time to make up this scored assessment.  Most of the hour was spent researching -- see the "Research Cheats" document in Google Classroom for instructions and tips/tricks for success!  The quantity is a matter of time-on-task expectation: 40 minutes today and 48 minutes tomorrow -- 88 minutes total of research.  If you needed more than ~8 minutes today to finish the reading before you got started on the research or if you were absent, make up today's 40 minutes of research as homework.  It is due in Google Classroom by the start of class Thursday.
