U.S. History

We discussed a timeline of "Slavery and Racial Issues in the U.S.."  Then, for more specific context, we took some notes via SMARTboard onto the back of the "12 Years a Slave" note page -- if you were absent, copy these from a reliable classmate.  We then viewed select scenes from "12 Years a Slave" while recording notes on the four categories on the note page provided (and a helper page handout of the 30 UN Human Rights was also provided).  These notes (and notes of your questions) from viewing will be used for a Socratic discussion next week!  NOTE: the film is incredibly intense, as it depicts unflinchingly the horrors of slavery; be prepared before you open any video on You tube...Today we watched (see if available on You tube) Scene 8 through when the plantation mistress has finished talking to Eliza, Scene 12 through when the plantation mistress on the porch turns and walks away, and Scene 27 through to the end of the letter burning.  You can also make up missed viewing during Advisory.  We will view two more scenes tomorrow.
