Socratic discussion was continued and finished.  If you were absent both days or were absent one of the days and feel your performance was less than a B, then see the "Socratic Replacement" work in Google Classroom.  Now, begin the writing...see me for your individualized minimum page count (KCC requirement to earn the credit for the semester), choose 1 of the E.Q.s (you will need to stay ON POINT of what the E.Q. is asking...for example EQ 2 can not be just a collection of biographical facts about people), and then USE the helper/guide pages in Google Classroom in the "Writing" section (About tab)....Reminder -- writing will be due Monday, 1/8  (we will have in-class writing days on the Wed., Thurs.,  & Fri. of our first week back from break).

We reviewed the trends on the Outline of Popular Details for Urban Culture.  A note page for the Olmec video was distributed and discussed -- be sure to note in the "Other Interesting Facts" section (while viewing) why we don't have more evidence from the Olmec.  The 5 trends (of the 11 total for Urban) that are noted on the Olmec page as categories for notes are there because evidence for these in particular are present in this video.  View the first 32:09.  We'll finish the last 11 minutes in class on the first day back from break.

We discussed Loewen's claim with regard to the historiography of John Brown's story.  (See a reliable classmate to edit your notes as needed.)  We set up our "Civil War Era" C.Q. and E.Q. pages -- the E.Q. is "What was significant about the Civil War era?"  Students then collaborated through ALL of the John Brown (& Lincoln) notes to highlight the key points and helpful evidence that could be used in the end-of-unit E.Q. writing -- then, staple that note page to the EQ page OR make a note on your EQ page "See highlighted John Brown notes!"  Lastly, we stepped back to do our big-picture work for the unit -- do a practice (but a good practice) Claim & Evidence on Crash Course U.S. History: Civil War Part I (video #20)...we will do a scored one soon and this skill practice will put you in good shape AND the information is vital. ; )  More time tomorrow in class to finish the Crash Course. ; )

World History

We finished our Claim & Evidence assessment of the Chavin video -- remember there is a 3-part thesis and to see me if you need support with the process or extra viewing time.  If you were absent, see me to set up a time to make up this scored work in my room.

We prepped for Monday's Socratic discussion and then went over the class schedule of events for Monday through final exams.  Today's time was then given to complete the Unit-Closure Work Packet.

Your reading and notes from the Hendrix packet should be complete.  Today we began and finished the note-taking from the Loewen packet excerpts "John Brown and Abraham Lincoln" according the instructions detailed yesterday.  Borrow a packet and finish for homework as needed. 

World History

Today is the deadline for writing -- a hardcopy print-out AND digital to turnitin.com.  Today is the deadline for completing any skills re-dos for which students signed up.  A NEW deadline announced today...If you are planning to turn in late work on Research, corrections on Research, or a Socratic Replacement, the semester deadline is next Tuesday -- 12/19.  We began work on a scored Audio-Visual Claim & Evidence today -- to be finished in class on Monday.  If you were absent, see me to set up a time to do this assessment in my room.

Madison and Lauren's groups presented their slideshows today -- add to your notes.  (If absent, see a reliable classmate and/or ask one of the group members to share the slideshow with you.)  Looking ahead -- before we begin our writing, we'll have a Socratic discussion on both EQs on Monday (and continued onto Tuesday if needed).  To help us organize our big ideas and to review, we began today work on the Unit-Closure Work Packet -- to be finished in class tomorrow, but then homework after that if needed. ; )

We set up our John Brown note page for the 2nd article, also (leaving room to come back and finish the notes from the first)..."John Brown and Abraham Lincoln" --James Loewen -- create a small (7-10 lines of space) section for note on Historiography (how the topic has been studied differently over time) and then beneath that a subheading for "Notes on new facts."  Finish the reading and note-taking from the Hendrix excerpts first -- finish for homework as needed.  The Loewen packet will be continued in class tomorrow.

World History

We added notes to our Mental Map Timeline, set up our new E.Q. and C.Q. pages, read through the new Outline of Popular Details with attached maps while adding notes and highlighting -- all of which included a lot of discussion.  Connect with a reliable classmate for the added notes and to discuss for clarity; of course, you are always welcome to come in to see me in Advisory.  ; )

We continued sharing group slideshows and recording notes onto our E.Q. pages.  See your research score and comments in Google Classroom (in the Stream, under Curiosity Research).  No need to click "remedy," but please do feel free, as always, to reply with comments, questions, or corrections and then resubmit ; )

Pick up a "Skills Breakdown" packet (also in Google Classroom) and circle the bullet points for each micro-skill you've got mastered (already do well) and mark an arrow next to any bullet-pointed micro-skill that you've not yet mastered (aren't doing well consistently); turn this in to Mrs. Cluver, please.  Set up a doc in Google Classroom where you see the assignment "Mystery Quote" and record and submit there your interpretation of the meaning and guesses at the context (time/situation) and person involved.  (The mystery quote:  "I don't know you  .  .  .  You have a right to expect what I expect, and likely our expectations are not incomprehensible to each other.  I assume I'll get used to you.")  Read the excerpt's from Hendrix's "John Brown" while simply recording key facts on to a sheet of paper or Google doc of your own -- to be finished in class tomorrow.  Reminders:  Writing option is due Friday in both hard copy (printout) and via turnitin.com AND this Friday is also the deadline for students to complete the re-do work for skills they signed up to rework and replace.  ; )

Urban cultures!  Read the excerpted packet "Kingdoms and Captivity" and record notes on a sheet of paper or Google doc, listing the possible trends of Urban Culture you see as the people called the Hebrews underwent a culture shift from Agri-culture to Urban Culture and became the Jews (of Judah and Jerusalem).  Include examples from this particular culture so that you are inferring possible over-arching trends and capturing specifics of this case study.  Find your Mental Map Timeline, as we'll use that first thing tomorrow.  Reminders:  Writing option is due Friday in both hard copy (printout) and via turnitin.com AND this Friday is also the deadline for students to complete the re-do work for skills they signed up to rework and replace.  ; )
